About us
Out of the Can+ (OOTC+) provides an essential safe space for young people between 13-19 years old, to be themselves, whether they are confused about their sexuality/gender identity or just need to make like-minded friends.
This space allows young people to not feel isolated and the group supports the mental well-being of the young people, through the environment and activities carried out during the weekly session.
The group works with the local authority and engages with Schools around Swindon, to ensure young people are heard & supported. A national survey in 2014, asked 7,000 16 to 24-year-olds across the UK about their experiences, this survey found:
- 42% of young LGBT people have sought medical help for anxiety or depression.
- 52% of young LGBT people report self-harm either now or in the past.
- 44% of young LGBT people have considered suicide.
We need your help so we can continue to offer this support in Swindon and even expand our service!
Thank you for your support and good luck!
Yours sincerely,
Miss Jo Sharpe
