About us
Peatmoor Community Woodland, close to Peatmoor Lagoon, is an important secret environmental space in West Swindon. It is a fragment of the ancient Bradon Forest and is a rare example of wet woodland.
A group of volunteers manages the 6-acre copse following traditional management techniques that have been used for centuries. In the winter we coppice (cut down) hazel trees so that they regenerate over the following 7 years. By doing this, we're improving the biodiversity of the woodland by letting in light and warmth into different areas over the coppicing cycle. In the summer we maintain footpaths and boardwalks over wet areas
We need your help so that we can continue to offer and even expand our activities. Do visit the copse, it's a surprising place. But beware, the conditions underfoot are uneven. If you would like to join the volunteer group which meets on the first Sunday morning of the month, please make contact.
