About us

Swindon Hardship Fund's aim is to contribute to the relief of severe financial hardship for persons living in the borough of Swindon.

We need your help so we can make small grants to people going through a really tough time in their lives, where they are struggling to meet the basic needs of living and enduring a great deal of worry and stress.

The need for this funding is particularly increased since the Covid-19 pandemic, since many people in our town have been financially impacted by things such as loss of jobs, loss of income, closure of businesses, financial uncertainty, financial impact of ongoing illness etc. This has added pressure to members of our community who were already enduring great adversity- 64% of children in lone parent families in Swindon were living in poverty before the pandemic.[Swindon Borough Council Child Poverty Rapid JSNA 2016]

Financial hardship can effect anyone, from any background, in or out of work and including those who are retired. Although at first glance Swindon has high employment, the average earnings by workplace are higher than the average earnings by residence in Swindon, suggesting that commuters are in more highly paid posts than Swindon residents. [Swindon Borough Council Child Poverty Rapid JSNA 2016] Swindon's comparatively high employment rate is deceptive- There are fewer well-paid jobs in Swindon than in England as a whole (as defined by occupation type), and more jobs that are generally lower paid. Thank you very much for your support and good luck!
