Swindon IA is a friendly and active ostomy patient (ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy, pouch patient) support group and a UK registered charity. The group was formed in 1980 and to this day the charity is run entirely by volunteers who donate of their time and efforts to the benefit of fellow ostomists. The charity owns no cars, property or equipment and has no paid staff.
The aim of the group is to support and encourage fellow ostomy patients return to a full and active life following radical bowel surgery and to disseminate relevant information by way of meetings, magazines and local newsletters.
Since its formation we have donated thousands of pounds of equipment and services to our local hospital stoma care service and created in-house a patient information DVD, which is available free of charge to any stoma care clinic in the world.
Swindon IA holds members’ meetings in March, July and December plus regular informal ‘cuppa and a chat’ meetings.
We are very proud of our links with our local health professions based at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon, and endeavour to help them to help us.
For more information on the group, we have a website www.swindon-ia.org.uk and a Facebook page www.facebook.com/SwindonIA
