About us
'Unrestricted funds, like the kind we receive through the Swindon Lottery, have become more important than ever through Covid.'
We aim to be a family for every individual who seeks asylum or is granted refugee status in Swindon, and to help them to rebuild their lives.
We provide advice, support, practical help and friendship, so that our visitors have the best possible chance of a fair hearing, a fair outcome from their asylum claim, and a fair future in the UK.
Before the lockdown, our drop-in was open Monday to Friday from 11am to 2pm and we typically saw around 200 different people each week.
This year has seen a huge change in the way we work.
Through lockdown, we have worked to provide food parcels to our visitors, who do not have the luxury of shopping online to avoid public transport and crowded supermarkets.
We have maintained contact with people via phone, email and Zoom which has highlighted the gap in digital connectivity. It's so easy to take our smart phones and data packages for granted but many people are without these, making them even more isolated during lockdown.
We have worked hard securing funds to provide tablets and routers to those without connectivity, allowing them to continue having English lessons, and being able to stay in touch with friends and loved ones.
We have started limited in-person appointments and classes again and continue trying to find creative ways to keep our visitors and volunteers engaged and supported.
Unrestricted funds, like the kind we receive through the Swindon Lottery, have become more important than ever through Covid, as they are not tied to one particular project. This means that we can redirect these funds to different projects and acitivities as needed.
Thank you so much for supporting us.
