About us

Wiltshire Search and Rescue is a voluntary organisation that is called upon by Wiltshire Police to search for and recover high risk, vulnerable missing people when there is an immediate threat to life.  The people that we look for include the elderly, people with dementia, despondent people who might be at risk of harming themselves.  We are also called out to search for missing children.  Our primary aim is to locate a missing person, administer any lifesaving first aid that may be required and recover them to a place of safety.

We work alongside and in partnership with the emergency services and other voluntary organisations.  We also have a Water Rescue Team who are trained to DEFRA standards with swift water and technical rescue capabilities.

Established in 2000 the team has over 60 operational members who volunteered in excess of 25,000 during 2018 and attended 72 callouts.

We are also available to support our emergency services in times of need, such as flooding or extreme weather conditions.  During the past two winters when heavy snowfall was experienced, our assistance was requested, utilising our 4 x 4 capabilities, to assist Wiltshire Police in attending incidents that their normal vehicles were unable to access. We were also enlisted to help the NHS in getting staff to patients in order to provide end of life care and midwifery services to those living in remote areas and who would otherwise not have received the care that they required.

No wages are paid throughout the organisation and volunteers are expected to cover the cost of their equipment and fuel when attending callouts.

We need to raise in excess of £26,000 pa to cover our running costs and this is generated by our own fundraising efforts such as supermarket collections and donations made by members of the public.

Thank you for your support and good luck!

Yours sincerely,

Wiltshire Search and Rescue
